I am not sure where you stand on the Republic debate, personally I like the Monarchy and the current Constitutional arrangements under the Commonwealth, and whatever your take is absolutely up to your good sense, as it should be.
What does make no sense to me though, is to hear the current Governor General of Australia, the Representative of Her Majesty the Queen, state that she is behind the push for a Republic and if that isn't shocking enough, she steps over the line again by engaging publicly in her support for homosexual marriage
....which is a very political issue and out of order for her to make comment on. Clearly Mrs Bryce (she's lost all honorary respect in my eyes after this stunt) has deliberately chosen to use the office and platform of Governor General of Australia to have a dig at the Monarchy and push her own and her son in law's (Opposition Leader Shorten) barrow on gay marriage.
The first and only mistake so far that the Prime Minister has made since coming into office was NOT to accept or even insist on the resignation of the current G.G, due to what is obviously now a huge CONFLICT OF INTEREST

Australian spooks spied on Indonesia
Do you remember the very funny hit film from the 80's, "SPIES LIKE US"?
Well if you do, then you can understand how I see this "international incident" as being just as funny and just as hyped up as the characters portrayed in that movie.
To think that there is any "surprise & shock" over the revelations that we would dare listen in on the communications of heads of government and defence related authorities in our region, AND let's not forget in this case, a nation that teachers its children that they have a birth right to the great southern land, a nation that spend billions of dollars of it's "foreign aid" on building it's military and a nation that has publicly admitted that strive to have an Defence Force greater & more powerful than ours, is a JOKE!
Diplomatically both sides do a great job of keeping the peace, and who would want anything to be different? BUT it must be understood that a huge part of the maintenance of regional peace is the agreed understanding of the fact that all major powers in this region DO and HAVE FOR A LONG TIME, monitored each other. It keeps people honest.
The hypocrisy here is not that the Indonesians are in shock of these spying revelation, because what they are doing is purely playing a domestic card that shows strength and a little defiance due to the local elections in that country,...NO, the hypocrisy here is that the events reported took place whilst the ALP/GREENS coalition were in Government and it seems to me that the leader of the Greens, Christine Milne is purely playing for political points from the usual suspects & loss supporters, because she would have known this was going on & that she said nothing then!!! I have yet to hear her ever say how much she respects & admires the privacy of the President of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono GCB in the past, and in my opinion, I doubt she likes the SBY regime much at all.

I tend to recall Kevin Rudd having a meeting in Hungary a few years ago. I am 99.9% convinced that Kevin has sewn up a U.N style diplomat job for himself in Europe and that he knew this well before he was made leader of the ALP again and was just waiting for the election (that he also knew he would lose) to be over before his retirement announcement last night.
Cunningly and true to his nature, Rudd did hang on so that he could tick off "DESTROY JULIA" on his REVENGE BUCKET LIST & succeeded. I am also confident that in his mind there was no need for him to sit on the back bench whilst wasting precious years, better used as a UN player, which in my opinion has always been a marker on his MAIN goal, to be head the U.N.
Just as clever was the timing of the announcement, which gave those opposite no time to prepare a more considered eulogy for a former retiring PM still within the House.... and this resulted in the Liberal leaders having to speak from the heart (well aware that Hansard misses nothing) thus resulting in a more than generous bout of accolades that were far too gracious and hypocritical in their praise for a man who will be remembered as one of the 3 worst PM's this country has seen, more so than the black arm history brigade who will remember his meaningless "Sorry Stunt"...IMHO.
This by-election in Griffith (thanks for the cost of that Kevin) is a two edged sword for both the Govt. and Opposition. Either way, the result will not be a good look for the losing party, a matter that Kevin Rudd really couldn't care less about and is a win win for him as there is no love lost with Abbott or Shorten.
Did you know that there are now 7 living PM's drawing a huge weekly pension?
Good bye K Rudd, thanks for nothing and I will not be forgetting you in a hurry, in fact I still draw cartoons with Whitlam in them, so you can expect to pop up again in future scribblings.

They died for our freedom of speech, to not have to accept authoritarian rule & ideological bias without the ability to question and show dissent without the fear of persecution or death. They died to maintain our very way of life, a standard of living that is the envy of the world...... LEST WE FORGET.
Lest we also forget those who would want the very opposite of what our ancestors fought and died for.....the Greens & the far left Socialists of the ALP, who want us to swallow the Fabian/Marxist lies & hysteria in order to diminish our way of life and to control/regulate our freedom of speech through the fear of persecution via the tool of political correctness.
The enemy is no longer on the Western Front, it is in the gate, it is in the schools, it is in Government!

It's been most amusing and enlightening for me to watch the usual suspects in the mainstream media and, surprisingly, some not so usual ones, literally crying and bleating because the new Federal Coalition Govt. has decided not to play the 24 hour media cycle game and actually control the flow of information and especially information concerning security sensitive information & foreign policy.
The MSM has been fattened on daily announcements and political stunts for the last 6 years thanks to the Rudd/Gillard/Rudd media circus machine of distraction and this addiction will not slide easily for the press gallery etc.
You'd think they'd enjoy the extra time to sit back, think deeply and try to properly analyse the political conversations thus providing the public with a better, more considered, informed and less knee-jerk reactionary reporting.
This style of Governance makes me feel quite comfortable but what it has exposed, I guess, is the standards or lack or standards that our media companions now hold themselves to. The quick flashy rhetoric driven columns and sound grabs are just easy to run, with the benefit of a the lack of scrutiny by peers and public simply because the cycle is moving too fast to stop & study.
Basically speaking, it's time the Mainstream Media in this country stopped being lazy and got used to fighting for not just a comment but a meaningful TRUTH -- and stop filling in the empty spaces with their opinion because it sells papers, favours ideological support ........
Leave opinion to the talk-back hosts & callers, political TV talk panels, the writers to the editors page, the opinion editors and of course the satirists.

This is my Melbourne Cup effort for this year. Good luck if you have a horse in the race.
ALP leader Bill Shorten Is "Electric Bill" because of his unwavering support for energy taxes
